Dyslexia

                    A Language Based Learning Disability.

Have you seen the Movie "Taare Zameen Par"? And do you remember Ishaan Awasthi's character in the film? Ishaan had difficulty in reading and writing.

most of people don't know anything about Dyslexia. Whenever we see someone suffering from dyslexia, we think him/her as mentally unbalanced or retarded or stupid.
It is related to certain genes that control brain development. So it can also be genetic or sometimes caused by brain injury and premature birth.

Difference between Dyslexia, Dysgraphia and Dyscalculia-

Dyslexia

The child had difficulty in reading words.

Dysgraphia

The child is unable to write properly.

Dyscalculia

The child faces difficulty in mathematics.

Here we will discuss only about Dyslexia.

Dyslexia is a genetic disease or neurological disorder related to the nervous system. Symptoms include late talking, learning new words slowly and a delay in learning to read.
In short - Dyslexia affects the ability to read, write or speak.

Dyslexia Is NOT an illness

Dyslexia is a learning disability that effects a person's spoken and written language. It does not effects or reflect the individual's intelligence or willingness to learn.

Dyslexia can be difficult to identify before the child enters school , but some early signs may be an indication.

Common Signs to Identify Dyslexia

(Before school, at school, adulthood)

  • Reading Difficulties
  • Late development of speech
  • Illegible writing
  • Difficulty with number
  • Inability to follow multiple instructions
  • Confuses letters with a similar shape, such as b and d.
  • Slow to establish a dominant hand, i.e. right or left handed.
  • Difficulty  putting thoughts onto paper
  • Seems to daydream or zone out when in a classroom or meeting scenario
  • intelligent but does not test well or has severe anxiety about testing

Treatments Of Dyslexia

Unfortunately, Dyslexia is a condition that has to be dealt with throughout life as there is no specific medication to correct the neurological anomaly. Dyslexia can be identified at an early age and age-appropriate treatment can increase success,

Starting a child's treatment at an early age can prevent reading disability in the first few years of schooling, although this may not be so easy. An essential part of treatment as a parent is to educate yourself about the condition and stay positive.

Understand that it takes time for doctors to diagnose Dyslexia.

Currently, no medication treat Dyslexia. Instead, most children with dyslexia can succeed in school with tutoring or a special education program. Emotional support also plays an important role.

Wabi Sabi - Accepting Incompleteness

                                Wabi Sabi

" That Life Is Like That, Uncertain, Temporary, Incomplete."

'A way of living that Focuses on finding beauty in life's imperfections and peacefully accepting the natural cycle of growth and decay.'
I don't know why people always try to find faults in others. Many times it happens with me that I worked very hard and people start finding flaws in my work. I have often seen people commenting on my clothes, questioning the way I live my life.

Be it any work or any item of consumption, we need everything completely and in the right way. Be it any person, be it you or me, in today's time everyone wants to be absolutely perfect. And in the race to become perfect, we start finding faults in others and start making allegations.

This is the reason why mental stress is arising in life nowadays. So, I want to live my life very simply and happily and satisfactorily even in this environment of appearance.

So, Nothing is Permanent
Nothing is Perfect
And Nothing is Finished.

Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese Philosophy according to which all things should be as they are imperfect, imperfect and temporary - and includes all aspects of life from the creative to the spiritual.

"Be Who You Are, Outer Beauty Lasts For A Few Days. Like A Bowl Which Becomes Old After Some Time But It's Usefulness Remains The Same".

Wabi Sabi has no exact meaning in the English dictionary and do not translate directly into English. Its a Japanese philosophy of life that tells us to be at peace with shortcomings. Wabi originally referred to the solitude of living in nature, away from society; Sabi meant "cool", "lean" or "withered".

Around the 14 century these meanings began to change, taking on a more positive connotation.

After centuries of incorporating artistic and Buddhist influences from China, wabi sabi eventually developed into a distinctly Japanese ideal. Over time, the meaning of wabi and sabi became more light-hearted and optimistic.

Why am I interested and want to engage with the concept of Wabi-Sabi ?

A few month back , I had gone to attend a family functions in the in-laws village. After going there, I felt that people have come to this ceremony only to show their clothes and ornaments and their status, maybe i was one of them. But after only a short time, I realized that everyone wants to show themselves above each other.
I was the daughter-in-law of the house, so I felt that I should also help everyone in the household work. Even After helping me I heard some people finding fault with me, they were commenting on me, making fun of me behind my back, make fun of me with words. They forgot about their limits.
I didn't even know about the people who were doing this and I saw them for the first time in that village. They told to others behind my back that I didn't work, just pretending to work.

When I heard about myself, I remembered the story of the "Tea Ceremony" in Japan, where tea held whenever someone wanted to show off their wealth.
The concept of Wabi Sabi is also somewhat related to the tea ceremony.

I don't care what anyone says, just I can do one thing next time I meet those haters I will keep away from them. Yes, I agree that I have not accumulated money in life, I don't know how to show off, I do not know how to talk big, but I know how to be happy with what I am.

Because Wabi Sabi teaches us that one should accept a person as he/she is, with his merits and demerits, the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly.

Wabi Sabi teaches us to find beauty in imperfection to nature and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

In today's Japan , the meaning of wabi sabi is often summarized as " Wisdom in Natural Simplicity".

A contemporary Japanese exploration of the concept of wabi sabi can be found in Junichiro Tanizaki's  influential essay "In Praise of Shadows".

Wabi Sabi concept were historically of great importance in the "Development of Western Studio Pottery"; Bernard Leach (1887-1979) was deeply influenced by Japanese aesthetics and techniques, evident in his seminal work "A Potter's Book".

At the end, if you want to understand in one line, then accept what is natural, whether it is a person, a thing  a lack in you; to see the beauty and power in it and to make it perfect.
So find beauty in not only your own but also in the shortcomings of others.

Kainotophobia - An Abnormal Fear of Newness.

"A Medical Term That Defines Abnormal Fear of Newness or Fear of Changes.

Kainotophobia (Cainotophobia), this word come to my mind many days ago when I observed people around me and people are afraid of innovation or newness and want to adopt the same concept that has been around for a long time.

I am trying to find a proper and detailed description of this Kainotophobia term, only the meaning of this word found on the internet.

I think Fear of change doesn't just mean of changing things at home and work, but also changing the way of thinking and living. More than anything, some people neither want to change the way they live nor do they want to let the people around them change.

In my article, I have used the term Kainotophobia for those people who never want the people around them and their children to go out and think different from their views. If this happens they will be left alone and their will be no one to listen to them and serve them.

For example, Once I met the children of my closest relative. The children were very interesting and intelligent and wanted to go out for studies but their mother did not agree. When I asked the reason, they said that the children are still too young not to be alone away from home, while these children are at that stage of age where they have made a step towards understanding the world and now they have to start the age of learning and seeing the world outside the home.

when I was trying to explain them the benefits of education, the children's mother told me clearly that if they go out and get education then they will forget me and who will serve me.

I shocked, who has such thoughts in the 21st century.

Next example, similarly some people do not want to change the condition of things in their house. Things lie in one place for long periods of time, never to be refurbished or rearranged, even when they start to look old and worn out. Like -  some old photo frame and pictures of childhood memories and pictures of past young life, the elders of the house do not want to replace them or nor allow them to be removed from that place and kept some where else.

Experience, once while teaching in school, I felt like explaining to children in a new way, but at the same time a senior teacher came and started shouting that you cannot do it in any new way or with any new words. She told me that she has 25 years of experience or I will have to follow her method.  She doesn't want to change her 25 years old teaching method, she doesn't want to bring any innovation in education.

Another, I have seen in my In-law's village that women are not interested in new traditions of life and do not want to change according to the younger generation. She  thinks that if we let the change happen, the next generation will start doing what they want and then we will loss control in the house and no one will ask us.

So, In order that no new change takes place, those women will create such a tense atmosphere in the house by resorting to hypocrisy, due to which the new change will have to be avoided.

Some people want to drive everyone according to their mind set. Get angry if someone act out of their way.

Finally there are  lot of experiences about the fear of changes or fear of newness.

Without any research how we can we define whether it is Kainotophobia in medical terms or not.

If we define it based on the definition of Kainotophobia, then Kainotophobia is the fear of any change, whether it is the fear of changing the location of an object or person, the fear of changing thoughts or any change that  generates newness and positive energy,

I define Kainotophobia/ Cainotophobia according to my thoughts and experience. Please share your thoughts on what you understand by the term Kainotophobia.

Human Library

"A Place Where Real People Are on Loan to Readers."

"How would you feel if you go to the library in search of a book to gather information on a particular subject an instead of the book, you are provided with an expert on that subject, talking to whom you can solve all your curiosities."

Have you ever thought that a "Human Book" will ever replace a "Paper Book"?

Everything has changed fast in the 21st century.
The Human Library is designed to create a positive framework for conversation that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. The Human Library is a place where "real people" are on "loan" to readers. A place where tough questions are expected, appreciated and answered.
The concept of Human Library

First started in 2000 in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Ronni Abergel and his brother Dany and colleagues Asma Mouna and Christoffer Erichsen. The human library is a non-profit international organization.
The Human Library Organization is active in over 80 countries.

"The Human Library" creates a safe space for dialogue where topics are discussed openly between our 'Human Books' and their 'readers'.

The Human Library is called "Menskebiblioteket" in Danish. And also Known as 'Living Library'.

Human Library in India

Indore was the first city in India to have a Human Library. Hyderabad was next and then made its way to 9 other cities in India Like Delhi, Mumbai.

How Does it Works?
Human Library is like a regular library where people go to find books. The only difference is that all the books are written by 'Human Volunteers', who have chosen to speak openly about their experiences in front of an interested audience and answer any questions they may be asked.
Simply put, the Human Library gathers people with interesting stories and allows visitors to "read" them in sessions lasting a few minutes.

Human Books in The Human Library

The "Human Books" for the Human Library are actually people who come from different backgrounds. They have experiences they want to share with their readers. Like normal books, "Human Books" also have such titles like as 'Survivor of Trafficking', 'Latino', 'Transgender', 'Black Activist', 'Chronic Depression' etc.
From these, you can choose "Human Book" by choosing the subject of your choice.

Deja Vu - Already Seen And Experienced

Deja Vu

Sometimes when I am doing some work I feel that these things have happened to me before.

When you reach an unknown place, it is as if you have been here before.

Sometimes sitting among people or talking about an issue, it seems that the exact same thing have happened before but I can't remember when ? The strong feeling that , somehow you have already experience what is happening now, which is known as "Deja Vu".

The concept of "Deja Vu" was coined in 1876 by the French philosopher and researcher Emile Bouillac in a letter to the editor of the Revue Philosophies de la France et I'Etranger.

Cause

Being busy, tired, a little stressed and it happens when there's a slight miscommunication between the two parts of our brain.

We encounter a situation that is similar to a real memory but we are not able to full recall that memory.

"Deja Vu" is difficult to study in the laboratory because it is a feeling experience and also because there is no clearly identifiable trigger for it. Nevertheless, researcher use several tools to study this phenomenon, based on the hypothesis they put forward.

Treatment

"Duja Vu" is a highly common mental condition that is transitory in nature. The anxiety associated with feeling "Duja Vu" can be managed by learning relaxation techniques such as take slow and deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, visualization exercises and mindfulness meditation.

Is Deja Vu Serious?

For most healthy individuals, Deja Vu has no serious effects other than a momentary feeling of confusion. However, if you are experiencing frequently Duja Vu, a few times a week or more, than you may to go to a neurologist and take advice.

I hope, I have explained "Duja Vu" in a simple and concise language.

Eigengrau, the colour you see when your eyes are closed.

What colour do you think you see when you close your eyes?

Just close your eyes and try to identify the colour you are seeing, is it Black or other? We all think that when we close our eyes it gets dark and we can see only black colour.

Humans can imagine most colours in their thoughts with closed eyes but without imagination we close our eyes and see darkness but it is not a black colour.

It's lighter than Black and is called Eigengrau.

Eigengrau is a German term and this word is combination of two different words that are 'Eigen' and 'Grau'. Word 'Eigen' means 'Own' and the word 'Grau' means 'Grey', it's translates to 'Intrinsic grey' or 'Own grey'.

The word Eigengrau first appeared in the 19th century and is often attributed to the philosopher and physicist Gustav Fechner (1801-1887), who spent his whole life searching for the mysteries of sensation and perception.

When we closed our eyes and couldn't see any light source, the colour of the Eigengrau was very dark grey. It's never  completely black due to noise generated by cellular activities in the ratina and optic nerve.

The Hexadecimal (Hex) colour code for Eigengrau is #16161D.

The RGB colour code is RGB(22,22,99), Eigengrau has a Red value of 22, a Green 22 and Blue 29.

The CMYK colour code is also known as process colour used in colour printing, CMYK stands for Cyan 24.1%, Magenta 24.1%, Yellow 0.0%, and Key(Black) 88.6%.

There are many others colour scales like HSL, HSB/HSV, CIE-Lab etc.

I don't want to go into the deep explanation of this and now I want to wrap up my article.

Interestingly, on the Hex colour code is #000000 and Eigengrau is #16161D.

Eigengrau is a cool colour and has an Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of nearly 1, indicates how light or dark a colour will look on a scale of 0(Black) to 100(White).

So, it's a very dark colour.
